Public Documents Request
Our records are available online. Visit our Online Permit Tracking System. This will allow you to access building permits, electrical permits and plumbing permits, as well as complaint information. Our available online permit records go back to the 1980s.
The Records Management Division (RMD) stores and reproduces building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permit applications and other related documents such as job cards, certificate of final completion and plans. To view or obtain copies of building records, you must first request your order by filling out the Records Request Form (PDF) . The request form may be submitted in person or by mail to: DBI Records Management Division, 49 South Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94103 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For Report of Residential Building Records (3R Reports), please visit or contact the Records Management Division at (628) 652-3420. 3R Reports contain building permit history. Requests must be made through the DBI Request for Report of Residential Building Record Form and accompanied by payment.

For public record requests that do not fit into these categories, please send your request to email@example.com. Be advised that our records are address specific. Please provide an address (with additional relevant information such as permit application numbers) along with a time frame for the documents so that we may be able to process your request quickly.
