File Your Online Permit

If you are a licensed contractor with an online DBI account, you can file your online permit, such as electrical, plumbing and mechanical, Boiler Permit to Operate, reroofing. Using this online account, sign-in to your account clicking the link below to file your permit: You can also schedule your trades inspection online when ready.
 
Please note, due to verification requirements, the online permitting system cannot be used with the First Year Free program. Plumbing and electrical permits for First Year Free program applicants must be obtained in-person at 49 South Van Ness.

Don’t have an account? 

If you need to obtain a homeowner Electrical and/or Plumbing permit for your SFD (single family dwelling) and plan to perform the work yourself, you can email DBI staff at dbi.inspectionservices@sfgov.org for details.

B license contractors filing trades permits can be done in-person at DBI.

 
Take these steps to register for a new account:
 
If you are a licensed contractor qualifying for online permit submission and would like to set up an online account, start the registration process by taking the steps below. 
 
 
Step 2: To access these DBI online services, please complete the Contractor’s Agreement and Terms of Service form (PDF).
 
Step 3: Send the Contractor’s Agreement and Terms of Service form completed and signed to the Department of Building Inspection, Management Information Services via the methods below. Upon receipt of this form and with license verification completed, DBI Online Services will issue your account, which will enable you to print permits from home.
 
 
Online Permit Filing Convenience Fee: A convenience/service fee will be applied, of up to 2.5% with a minimum of $2.00 for Electrical, Plumbing and Boiler permits in addition to all current DBI Fees.
