Regular Meeting of the

CODE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

AGENDA

1.0 Call to Order and Roll Call (2 minutes)

2.0 Approval of minutes of prior Code Advisory Committee (CAC) the Regular Meeting of July 18, 2001 and August 15, 2001. (5 minutes)

3.0 Discussion and possible action regarding a proposed document that provides procedures and guidelines for special inspection and structural observation. The Department of Building Inspection will use these guidelines during construction. The possible action will be to formulate a recommendation to the Building Inspection Commission (BIC) for their further action. (20 minutes)

4.0 Discussion and possible action regarding recent amendments to Sections 6735, 6735.3, and 6735.4 of the Professional Engineers Act (California) which are intended to clarify when civil, structural, soils/geotechnical, electrical and mechanical plans, drawings, calculations and reports are required to bear the wet signature and wet stamp of the licensed engineer in responsible charge, or when just the name and license number are acceptable. The possible action will be to formulate a recommendation to the Building Inspection Commission (BIC) for their further action. (20 minutes)

5.0 Discussion and possible action regarding proposed legislation amending Chapter 31 of the San Francisco Building Code to ban the installation of wood-burning fireplaces and similar devices in new and remodeled residences. The possible action will be to formulate a recommendation to the Building Inspection Commission for their further action. (Supervisor Daly) (15 minutes)

6.0 Discussion and possible action regarding US Senate Bill 424 (Sen. Feinstein, introduced March 1, 2001) that provides incentives to encourage private sector efforts to reduce earthquake losses, to establish a national disaster mitigation program, and for other purposes. The possible action will be to determine if a letter of support should be sent to Senator Feinstein or to the Building Inspection Commission with a recommendation. (15 minutes)

7.0 Status of on-going programs within the Department of Building Inspection:

9.0 Discussion of building code implications of World Trade Center disaster.

11.0 Committee Member’s and Staff’s identification agenda items for the next meeting, as well as current agenda items to be continued to another CAC regular meeting or special meeting, or a subcommittee meeting. CAC discussion and possible action regarding administrative issues related to building codes. (3 minutes)

12.0 Public Comment on items not on this agenda but within the jurisdiction of the Code Advisory Committee. Comment time is limited to 3 minutes or at the call of the Chair.
