3.0

Discussion and possible action regarding the use of the GreenPoint Rated system.

Rich Chien, Department of the Environment explained that the GreenPoint Rated System originated with Alameda County in 2001 as a best-practices guideline for new construction and was subsequently taken over by Build It Green who developed it further long the lines of LEED-type verifiable checklists. This includes various categories for resources, minimum point thresholds and minimums, and established a third party rating protocol with certified Green Point raters trained by Build It Green. It has evolved into the Green Point Rated Program that is in alignment with California Title 24 Energy Program and other code issues in California.  This is thus probably more suitable for use with the San Francisco Green Building Ordinance for residential occupancies than the LEED for Homes which is national in basis.
