5.1.          Appeal No. 2003-01: 1010 Market Street, Mr. Jim Fagler, Architect of Asian
Neighborhood Design, requests a variance from the requirements of Section 3207 of the 2001 San Francisco Building Code. Section 3207 requires that a door either fully opened or when opening, shall not project (Appeal No. 2003-01) more than one foot beyond the property line. Mr. Fagler is requesting approval by the Board for a door, when opening, swings 36” into the public right of way (sidewalk).

5.2.          Appeal No. 2003-02: 601 Townsend Street (700-768 – 7th Street), Mr. Kerwin
Lee, Architect of Rolf Jensen & Associates, Inc., requests a variance from Table 5-B and Section 1007.2.1 of the 2001 San Francisco Building Code. The building is Type IV, H. T. Construction, three stories and a basement. Table 5-B limits the proposed A2.1 occupancy (assembly room with an occupant load of 300 or more without a legitimate stage) to a building height of two stories. Mr. Lee is requesting that the Board approve the use of the third floor as an A2.1 occupancy.

Also, Section 1007.2.1 requires that an A2.1 occupancy be provided with a main
exit with a sufficient width to accommodate not less than one half of the total occupant load. Mr. Lee is requesting that the Board approve the use of multiple main exits to serve the A2.1 occupancy instead of a single main exit.
