CAPSS - May 12, 2010

Dear CAPSS Study Participants and Interested Persons,

We would like to invite you to attend our May 12 CAPSS' Advisory Committee meeting (11am to 1pm, Room 2001 in DBI), which will focus on the role insurance plays in our efforts to identify and retrofit the most vulnerable buildings in San Francisco.

CAPSS has lined up excellent speakers for this meeting.  So far, confirmed speakers include Glenn Pomeroy, CEO of the California Earthquake Authority; and Emily Cabral, Executive Director of United Policyholders.  Current and former officials from the insurance industry may also participate.  In theory, insurance companies should be interested in promoting and supporting seismic retrofits.  The meeting discussion will focus on understanding what role insurance companies can play in helping San Francisco prepare for and recover from future earthquakes.  We will identify what opportunities exist to partner with them to encourage mitigation to make San Francisco safer and more resilient to future earthquakes.
