Call to Order and Roll Call

Meeting was called to order at 9:00 a. m.  Quorum established with 3 members present.

2.0

Approval of the minutes of the Structural Subcommittee special meeting of July 13, 2004.

A motion to approve the minutes.  Seconded and approved.

3.0

Continue discussion and possible action on update to structural standards  in 2001 California Building Stds. Code.

No discussion.

4.0

Continue discussion and possible action on preliminary results of CAPSS program, including TSD proposals for seismic upgrade of corner wood-framed buildings.

Need to consult with Laurence Kornfield for direction we’ll be taking, either at a Blue Ribbon Meeting, or a meeting organized by Laurence.


5.0

Continue discussion on DBI requirements for geotechnical reports. (DBI staff report).

Awaiting Hanson Tom to review and markup draft administrative bulletin.

Discussion on MEP piping support and bracing.

Discussion and possible action regarding proposed revisions, corrections and additions to the 2001 California Building Code in preparation for the 2004 edition of the San Francisco Building Code. The following chapters will be discussed:

 

VOLUME ONE
Chapter 16E


Retroactive Seismic Provisions for Private Schools (Proposed New Chapter)


 

Chartered schools are also included in the discussion.
Whether 75% of base shear of 104F should or should not apply to school was discussed.
The education code excludes everything thru the 12th grade.
For further discussion, need more information from Zan Turner and from SEAOC.

 

Chapter 23 

Wood (Section 2304.3: Timber Connectors and Fasteners)

 

The following guidelines were suggested:

Fasteners 16 gage or lighter should be hot-dipped galvanized in accordance with G185 per ASTM A653.
Fasteners 14 gage or heavier should be hot-dipped galvanized per ASTM A123.
For wood treated with preservative with ammonia base carrier, fasteners should be stainless steel

 

For further discussion, need more information from Tri-chapter task force on this issue, from Pat Buscovich on Condominium litigation and test results from other manufacturers of preservatives and fasteners, etc.

Discussion and possible action on designing upgrades to existing foundation to support vertical addition.

Discussion on Special Inspection Checklist: Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for High Rise Buildings.

This item will be removed from current agenda of the Structural Subcommittee, to be added to the agenda of the Life Safety Subcommittee..
