Discussion and possible action on proposed amendments on structural provisions to the  2007 California Building Code

The following sections are discussed:

Section 1604.11:
Incompatibility between IBC and UBC are discussed.
Extensive revision required

Chapter 16 B & C :
The timeline has passed, but the ordinance and the timeline are still in effect.

Section 1704.1:
Revise Exception 3 as follows:

3.    Unless otherwise required by the building official,  The special inspections and verifications for concrete construction are not  required for occupancies in Group R-3 and occupancies in Group U that are accessory to a residential occupancy including, but not limited to, those listed in Section 312.1.

This exception shall not apply to foundations serving as retaining walls of soil over 5 feet (1829 mm) in height measured from the base of the foundation, or the structural design of the footing based on a specified compressive strength,  f’c, greater than 2,500 pounds per square inch (psi) (17.2 MPa), regardless of  the compressive strength specified in the construction documents or used in the footing construction.

The language of IBC is preferred over UBC.
ASTM E329 is still current.

Section 3403:
Posting after (and not before) 15 days, wind loads per IBC being less than UBC are discussed.
Extensive revision required

Appendix J:
Since Appendix J is similar to Appendix Chapter 33 which was adopted in 2001, it seems reasonable to adopt  Appendix J and carryover the San Francisco amendments  than to relocate to Chapter 18.
