Code Advisory Committee
NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING
You are invited to participate in a special Code Advisory Committee meeting that will include a presentation by several design professionals regarding the challenges and problems that have been encountered in the systems design of a naturally ventilated building, including architectural design, ventilation controls, interaction with mechanical systems, smoke evacuation, fire and life safety, etc. Cole Roberts of Arup (project California Academy of Sciences) and Igor Tartakovsky of C&B Engineers (project (project: Gap Headquarters) and Jeffrey Maddox of The Fire Consultant (project: GSA Federal Building) will give an overview and discussion will follow with an opportunity to make recommendations for further research and development of the San Francisco building codes to encourage the higher environmental performance of buildings in San Francisco.

The architect and engineers of the new GSA Federal Building will make a presentation on the challenges and problems that were encountered in the systems design of a naturally ventilated building, including architectural design, ventilation controls, interaction with mechanical systems, smoke evacuation, fire and life safety, etc. Discussion and possible action regarding revisions to the San Francisco building codes to make them more user-friendly toward “green” design. The possible action will be to set out recommendations for further research and development. |

Discussion and possible action regarding a proposed ordinance (File No. 060032) allowing certain medical cannabis dispensaries in Residential-House or Residential-Mixed districts to remain open during the 18-month application period and other amendments. This proposed ordinance would provide for the referral of permit applications a medical cannabis dispensary to the Department of Building Inspection. The possible action would be to make a recommendation to the Building Inspection Commission for their further action. |

Discussion and possible action regarding consistent interpretation of requirements under Administrative Bulletin AB-037, Non-Complying Exit Separation in Existing Group B, F-1, M, S-1, and S-2 Occupancies. Specifically, the discussion will focus on the fire-resistive requirements for intra-tenant partitions that create complying tenant “compartments” for purposes of equivalent exit separation. The possible action will be to make a recommendation to the Building Inspection Commission for their further action. |
